About the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction

The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) is charged with implementing the state’s public school laws and the State Board of Education’s policies and procedures governing pre-kindergarten through 12th grade public education. Launched in part by the NCDPI, the North Carolina Virtual Public School (NCVPS) is a supplemental service to public schools that provides online course delivery. Students from all areas of the state now have access to courses and highly qualified teachers in subjects that they may not have available at their local school. Courses approved by North Carolina ensure alignment to the Common Core Standards and the North Carolina Essential Standards. More information about the Department of Public Instruction and North Carolina Virtual Public School can be found on their respective websites.
