Edmentum, a leading provider of online learning solutions, is pleased to announce that ESL ReadingSmart has been awarded a complete WIDA PRIME V2 correlation. ESL ReadingSmart is Edmentum’s online program that supports English-language acquisition and academic success for 4th grade through adult English language learners. This correlation evaluated ESL ReadingSmart for its instructional merit in alignment with the WIDA PRIME V2 inventory.
The Protocol for Review of Instructional Materials for ELLs (PRIME) was developed to examine how the WIDA English Language Proficiency (ELP) Standards are represented in instructional materials. The PRIME process evaluates materials against fourteen criteria. Key elements of the Standards Framework include:
Representation of levels of language proficiency and domains
Cognitive challenge for all learners at all levels of language proficiency
Supports for various levels of language proficiency
Accessibility to grade level content
Currently, 38 U.S. State Education Agencies have adopted WIDA English Language Proficiency Standards and belong to the WIDA consortium. “Edmentum is proud to have the opportunity to work with WIDA PRIME and validate the rigor of ESL ReadingSmart,” said Edmentum chief academic officer Dave Adams. “This alignment ensures that ESL ReadingSmart and Edmentum are fully meeting the WIDA ELP standards and the needs of English language learners.”
Edmentum believes in providing ELLs with high-quality content to develop the language skills they need to succeed in an academic environment. By attaining a WIDA PRIME V2 correlation, Edmentum and ESL ReadingSmart join a distinguished group of online learning providers that have completed the multi-criterion analysis.
About the WIDA Consortium and PRIME The WIDA Consortium focuses on advancing academic language development for linguistically diverse students through high-quality standards, assessments, research, and professional development for educators. The WIDA Consortium developed PRIME to offer a methodology for publishers, independent correlators, and state and local education agencies to determine the ways in which key components of the WIDA English Language Proficiency Standards are represented in K–12 instructional materials.
