ESSA Level of Research: Moderate Evidence (Promising Evidence)

Efficacy

In this white paper, we examine the evidence for the construct validity of Study Island. Through our research, we have found high correlations between student performance on Study Island standards mastery programming and the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT). Efficacy

Edmentum performed a quasi-experimental study of the effectiveness of our Study Island online learning platform on student growth during the 2016-17 school year. These results indicate that Study Island is an effective, evidence-based intervention. Specifically, the study has been verified to meet all criteria to qualify Study Island as meeting the ESSA requirements of an “evidence-based” intervention.

Efficacy

This paper presents the results of a year-long study of Edmentum Exact Path from a nationwide field test during the 2016–17 school year. Results indicate that use of Edmentum Exact Path is positively associated with student achievement outcomes in math, reading, and language arts. Statistically significant effects were found linking the amount of time spent on Exact Path and end-of-year diagnostic scores.

Efficacy

Across the nation, individual states measure student growth differently. This analysis sorts the growth strategies used in twenty states into six different models. It goes into detail on each of the six models, provides real examples of how models are used by different states, and examines how states use student growth as an accountability measure.

Understanding how these states measure student growth provides a basis for modeling growth in Exact Path and will continue to inform future investment for this Edmentum program.

Efficacy

ESSA Level of Research: Moderate Evidence (Quasi-Experimental)

Overall: Study Island Benchmarks have strong predictive validity for the Pennsylvania state summative test. Using Study Island had statistically significant effects for English language arts and math, resulting in higher test scores and proficiency-level classifications.

What Works Clearing House Standard: Meets WWC Group Design Standards with Reservations

Overall: Analyses revealed statistically significant positive impacts for student usage of Exact Path on mathematics achievement in Kindergarten through Grade 8.

What Works Clearing House Standard: Meets WWC Group Design Standards with Reservations

Overall: Analyses revealed statistically significant positive impacts for student usage of Exact Path on reading achievement in Kindergarten through Grade 3.

Efficacy

ESSA Level of Research: Moderate Evidence (Quasi-Experimental)

Overall: Statistically significant effects were observed in 6th-grade math when students used Study Island often and over an extended period of time.

Efficacy

ESSA Level of Research: Moderate Evidence (Quasi-Experimental)

Overall: Students in 4th, 5th, and 7th grade who used Study Island scored higher on the state math test and were more likely to perform at the proficient or highly proficient level than comparable peers who did not use Study Island.

Efficacy

A Study of Best Practices in Edmentum Online Solutions. An analysis and interpretation of a Marzano Research Laboratory study.

Efficacy

Predictive Validity of Edmentum Study Island Benchmark Assessments.

Efficacy

The role of research and theory in educational science is to give administrators and teachers reasons why they prescribe the interventions they do. Certain enduring theories and compelling research explain why Edmentum Courseware is an effective and useful part of an educator’s professional landscape. This paper is an invitation to learn about the instructional design of Edmentum Courseware and how it helps teachers and students achieve learning outcomes.

Efficacy

Overall: We find medium to large associations between student performance on subject specific Edmentum Test Packs assessments and the ACT providing evidence of predictive validity. Edmentum Test Packs in Support of ACT Preparation are designed to assess and support students in preparation for the ACT.
