Texas Commercial Photography A/B

Texas Commercial Photography is a two-semester course designed to promote understanding of the technical skills and creative techniques required for success in photography careers. Students will examine camera operations, exposure and lighting, rules of composition, and color and black-and-white photography. The course places a particular focus on portrait, advertising, and architectural photography, special effects, analog photography, and darkroom development. In unit activities, students will produce photographs across a variety of subjects, manipulate and retouch images using photo-editing software, and apply laws and ethics related to photography. Students will also evaluate photographic works and develop a professional photography portfolio.

Required materials for this course include a DSLR camera, memory card(s), tripod, basic photo editing software, mounting/matting and photographic paper, USB drive or external hard drive to back up and transfer larger image files, and a charged battery/spare battery. Optional materials include a remote shutter release, card reader or USB cable, cleaning kit, and simple light reflector or diffuser.
