Virginia Medical Terminology A/B
Virginia Medical Terminology is a two-semester course designed to focus on medical terminology related to human body systems and the professional skills essential for healthcare careers. Students will examine the structure and function of body systems, interpret medical word parts, abbreviations, and symbols, and analyze diseases, disorders, treatments, and procedures for each body system. The course places a particular focus on communication skills, professional conduct, safety practices, and culturally sensitive interactions in healthcare settings. In unit activities, students will research healthcare professions and specializations, describe diseases and associated symptoms, and identify qualifications and equipment used in various healthcare careers. Students will also apply problem-solving techniques to healthcare scenarios, create a Code of Conduct for healthcare employees, and research private, state, and federal health insurance plans in the United States.
