Virginia World History and Geography: 1500 A.D. to the Present A/B

Virginia World History and Geography: 1500 to the Present is a two-semester course aligned with the 2023 History and Social Science Standards of Learning for Kindergarten - Grade 12 for Grade 10: World History and Geography: 1500 A.D. to the Present. The course traces major historical developments around the world from the age of European exploration through the modern era, covering political revolutions, economic transformations, social movements, scientific advancement, and global interactions. Students examine the origins of European exploration, the Renaissance and Reformation, major revolutions in American and France, as well as the Scientific Revolution and the Industrial Revolution, the spread of European nationalism, and the Russian Revolution. The course continues with analysis of late nineteenth and early twentieth-century imperialism, both World Wars, the rise and fall of communism in the Soviet Union and China, the Cold War, decolonization in Southeast Asia and Africa, and economic globalization. Students develop historical thinking skills while exploring how major global events have shaped the modern world and continue to influence contemporary life.
