Career-Connected Learning: From Exploration to Employability for All

Career and technical education (CTE) is no longer relegated to the margins of the K-12 discussion: it is now receiving widespread attention in states across the U.S., with broad support for comprehensive programs that truly prepare all learners for postsecondary success. Research demonstrates that participation in CTE courses has a positive influence on academic outcomes in middle and high school, and is a critical foundation for students to identify and pursue the best post-secondary pathway, whether college, career, or both.
In this session, you’ll learn about the benefits of starting CTE in middle school; our approach to preparing students for college and career, not just one or the other; and what's required to achieve true workforce readiness. You'll also learn more about Edmentum Career, a career-connected learning (CCL) solution for school districts that guides grades 6-12 students from exploration to employability. Our presenters share how Edmentum Career helps students:
- Discover their unique preferences and attributes by completing interest surveys beginning in middle school.
- Explore career options and build durable skills beginning in 6th grade with courses on digital citizenship, business and information technology, engineering, and more.
- Deepen learning with access to more than 180 online CTE courses that align to 14 Career Clusters (the nation’s in-demand career fields), such as health care, agriculture, and business management.
- Prepare for workplace success with a capstone that connects their learning to meaningful preparation for internships and workforce experiences.
