Economics

Economics is a one-semester course that examines how goods and services are created, consumed, and exchanged. Students will analyze basic economic problems such as scarcity, choice, and resource allocation, as well as market structures and international trade. The course places a particular focus on the US economy, government influence, and the Federal Reserve System. In unit activities, students will research factors of production and business structures for start-ups, analyze their state's wages and unemployment rate, investigate US trade relationships and agreements with other countries, examine aggregate economic behavior, and distinguish between short-term and long-term interest rates. Students will also analyze authors' points of view on economic events, evaluate claims and evidence, read and comprehend level-appropriate texts independently, and write supporting paragraphs with researched facts, details, and examples.
