Economics

Economics is a one-semester course that is 100 percent aligned to the Colorado Academic Standards (CAS) for social studies. The course is designed to introduce students to key economic concepts from both historical and current perspectives. Students will learn about the fundamentals of supply and demand, theories from early economists such as Adam Smith and David Ricardo, the evolution and value of money, and the roles of banks and the Federal Reserve. They will also examine Keynesian economics; how productivity, wages, investment, and growth function within capitalism; and global economic systems. In addition, the course covers economic challenges such as unemployment, inflation, and national debt, with students demonstrating mastery through scaffolded written assignments and lesson tests while applying basic mathematics to economic concepts.
