Virginia Health Science 2 A/B

Virginia Health Science 2 is a two-semester course designed to promote understanding of the skills and knowledge required for success in modern health care careers. Students will examine the US health care delivery system, diagnostic and therapeutic services, health informatics, and medical math. The course places a particular focus on professional conduct, infection control, disease prevention, medical and surgical equipment, and rehabilitative care. In unit activities, students will appraise the roles and responsibilities of various health care professions and analyze how diversity, cultural beliefs, and stereotypes affect health care treatment. Students will also examine patient rights, policies, and ethical standards; employ professional skills such as leadership, communication, and stress management; and analyze safety and emergency procedures to reduce injuries and control the spread of infection in health care facilities.
