Virginia Introduction to Hospitality, Tourism, and Recreation A/B
Virginia Introduction to Hospitality, Tourism, and Recreation is a two-semester course designed to promote understanding of the hospitality and tourism industry, its components, and the careers available within it. Students will examine the history and economic importance of the industry, food service and lodging operations, and travel and tourism structures. The course places a particular focus on customer service, workplace diversity, and safety and legal frameworks. In unit activities, students will apply food safety and service standards to hospitality operations, analyze marketing strategies, and evaluate leadership practices. Students will also develop career advancement skills and apply problem-solving and communication strategies to workplace challenges in the hospitality and tourism field.
