Exploring College and Careers A/B

Exploring College and Careers is a two-semester course designed to focus on career and academic planning and the foundations of building the skills students will need to succeed in today's dynamic job market. Students will learn how to identify their aptitudes, interests, skills, values, beliefs, and strengths by interpreting self-assessment data and will create a career and education plan. Students will also set long-term, mid-term, and short-term goals. They will explore careers in 16 career clusters and gain insights into the educational requirements and skills necessary for different professions as well as experiential learning opportunities such as internships and apprenticeships. In addition, the course covers key areas that contribute to professional growth, such as interpersonal skills, leadership, teamwork, and workplace ethics. The course will also teach students about entrepreneurship, financial planning, and preparing essential career materials such as résumés, cover letters, and portfolios that will serve students on their chosen career paths. Through focused mini lessons, students will be introduced to durable skills such as growth mindset and creativity, and they will have opportunities to practice and begin applying these skills in career-specific activities.
