Virginia Child Development and Parenting A/B

Virginia Child Development and Parenting is a two-semester course designed to promote understanding of child development stages, parenting skills, and family responsibilities. Students will examine parenting styles and trends, family planning strategies, child growth and development, and health and safety considerations. There is a particular focus on effective communication strategies, workplace ethics in childcare careers, and child welfare laws and organizations. In unit activities, students will research factors affecting child development and community support systems, estimate costs of raising children, and explore youth organizations. Students will also identify developmental stages and milestones in children, describe resources for families and children in need, and explore professional roles and responsibilities in the field of child development.
