At a time when educators are being asked to do more with less, platform simplicity and integrated solutions aren’t just nice to have—they're essential. Over the past year, we've continued bringing Apex Courses and Courseware together into one unified platform. Today, districts have access to expanded curriculum, streamlined educator workflows, built-in academic integrity capabilities, and a complete K–12 digital learning experience designed to make teaching easier and learning more effective. Those improvements were shaped by feedback from school and district leaders, and we continue evolving the platform around the needs educators tell us matter most.

Apex Courses users will continue to have access to the trusted courses they rely on—now within a more powerful platform that adds new capabilities without changing the core learning experience.Today, districts gain access to:

  • Expanded curriculum, including Courseware Elementary and more than 500 courses
  • Greater flexibility through course customization and mastery options
  • Simpler workflows like streamlined grading and reporting
  • Stronger academic integrity through built-in tools that help protect assessments and support authentic learning
  • Enhanced accessibility through multilingual learner supports

If you’re currently using Apex Courses and unsure what to expect when you upgrade to Edmentum Courseware, here’s what won’t happen:

  • You won’t pay more for what you’re using today. When your district upgrades to Courseware, you’ll keep the price you’ve already locked in for Apex Courses.
  • You won’t lose valuable courses and content, including CTE. Keep your Apex Courses and add an expanded catalog of Courseware courses.
  • You won’t start from scratch. When your district upgrades to Courseware, your Edmentum team will be by your side, providing the service and support you’ve come to expect, to ensure a smooth experience and continued success.

That support is already helping Apex customers make the transition successfully. Dawson Education Service Cooperative, which supports more than 40 alternative learning programs across 28 Arkansas districts, found that initial growing pains were short-lived as administrators and staff received training and support. By the second semester, staff described the upgrade from Apex Learning to Courseware as “smooth and easy.”

Award-winning digital courseware built for student success

Why Districts Choose Edmentum Courseware

Every enhancement we've made is designed to help educators and students achieve better outcomes. That's why we continue investing in rigorous research to validate what works.

Courseware is backed by third-party validated studies that demonstrate measurable improvements in student attendance and academic outcomes.

Here are our latest research findings:

  • Courseware reduces chronic absenteeism and improves engagement: spring 2023 study, meeting ESSA Tier 2 evidence standards, found that students in grades 8–12 who successfully completed at least one Courseware course had 23% fewer absences and 33% fewer tardies than their peers. These aren’t just attendance metrics—they’re indicators of stronger engagement, more learning time, and better overall course performance
  • Courseware students enrolled in Algebra 1 and English 1 score higher on NWEA MAP Growth assessments: Another rigorous study, also meeting ESSA Tier 2 evidence standards, examined Courseware’s impact on 9th-grade students in a large urban district. An average student who used the program through synchronous or asynchronous delivery could accelerate learning by up to five percentile points in mathematics and up to three percentile points in reading as compared with a student who did not participate in the program.

Strong, current evidence gives districts confidence that Courseware delivers meaningful outcomes for today's learners.

Expanded Career Learning

The platform also creates broader learning opportunities. Courseware Career includes more than 180 course semesters aligned to 14 Career Clusters®, supporting 55+ multiyear pathways. Students can explore careers, build durable skills, and prepare for college and the workforce through engaging, future-ready learning experiences.

A 2023–24 study of nearly 7,000 CTE students in Baltimore City Public Schools shows what that access can look like in practice.

  • 59% more ninth-grade students launched their CTE journey with Courseware.
  • 60% more twelfth-grade students finished their CTE experience with Courseware.

Courseware thus helped Baltimore City Public Schools use its CTE resources strategically to maximize district access, while ensuring that the courses students needed to finish their CTE journey were available and rigorous.

One Connected K–12 Experience

Courseware is part of a broader K–12 learning experience that brings digital curriculum and intervention together in one connected platform. With Courseware Elementary extending digital curriculum into K–5 and Exact Path providing individualized intervention, districts have more ways to meet student needs across grade levels and learning environments.

For educators and administrators, that means a more consistent experience across programs and fewer systems to manage.

Integrity Built For Learning

Academic integrity takes more than monitoring student activity. Courseware combines research-backed curriculum design with built-in safeguards that help districts prevent, detect, and respond to misuse, all within the policies and practices that set expectations for students. Together, these layers help districts create flexible learning opportunities while maintaining high expectations and confidence in the credits students earn.

“By the second semester, staff had received the training and support they needed, and that made the upgrade from Apex Learning to Courseware smooth and easy,” said Warden. “As their confidence with Courseware grew, they could see how much more they were able to do with it, and everybody was on board.”
