2016 Educator Award Winners Announced by Edmentum

Edmentum, a leading provider of online learning solutions, announced today that five educators are recipients of the 2016 Edmentum Educator of the Year and Inspirational Educator Awards. For these dedicated educators, teaching is not just a job; it is a passion, a drive, and an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of their students.
Edmentum’s Educator of the Year Awards seek to recognize educators who inspire learning, creatively encourage and engage their students, and leverage technology in innovative ways.
The five winners are:
Edmentum’s Principal of the Year: Robert Kern – Nazareth Area Middle School
Robert Kern is an outstanding administrator who inspires his teachers and students to be the best that they can be. He researches new educational practices and instills ideas into Nazareth Area Middle School so that they are always ahead of the curve.
Edmentum’s Teacher of the Year: Carmen Kilburn – David Crockett Elementary School
Carmen Kilburn is constantly using technology to improve instruction. She is data driven and uses information from a variety of programs to drive her instruction. She is loved by her students and makes learning fun and interesting.
Edmentum’s Inspirational Educator (High School): Karen Lakes – Juvenile Detention Center
In her challenging work, Karen Lakes uses a variety of strategies to engage students. She finds out what all students need and want then helps them write a plan and work toward success.
Edmentum’s Inspirational Educator (Middle School): Dr. Susan Featro – Tamaqua Area Middle and High Schools
As an ESL teacher, Dr. Susan Featro's dedication to learning and her community makes her stand out in every way. She continues to grow professionally and go above and beyond in all she does to help students, and she also helps other teachers teach English language learners.
Edmentum’s Inspirational Educator (Elementary School): Tami Calloway – Bratt Elementary School
Tami Calloway inspires her students to be hard workers, be team players, and be their best at every task. Having students who have struggled for years, she tutors them after school hours to get them on grade level. She thoughtfully plans to reach each child's learning style.
