Edmentum, a global education leader and a pioneer in online teaching and learning solutions, is pleased to release a new research study: Impacts of the Use of Study Island Practice in an Arizona School District. This study is the third Study Island research paper to be released in less than 10 months demonstrating Edmentum’s commitment to rigorous research and efficacy surrounding its programs. Results of the study indicate that Study Island had a statistically significant effect on improving student outcomes.

“Edmentum is committed to helping educators improve student achievement,” said Dr. Karen Barton, senior vice president of research and design at Edmentum. “We are thankful to partner with schools and districts across the country that allow us to conduct high-quality research to ensure that Edmentum programs meet the needs of the teachers and students who use them.”

This new study provides detailed analyses of student usage of Study Island compared to those students’ Arizona state assessment (AzMERIT) results, and it found statistically significant positive effects on state test scores in math for 4th, 5th, and 7th grade students who used Study Island compared to those who did not. Students who used Study Island were also more likely to achieve a higher proficiency level on the state test in math, with proficiency rates ranging from 5 to 10 percent higher among Study Island users.

“Our programs are designed using the latest research-based principles and pedagogy, and we’re glad to see that this new study further demonstrates their effectiveness,” said Dave Adams, chief academic officer at Edmentum.

Study Island is a customizable K–12 assessment and practice tool that gives educators the flexibility and depth needed to support student learning and continuously engage, monitor, and assess progress. Study Island is backed by multiple valid research studies that show that Study Island meets ESSA requirements of an evidence-based intervention.
