Edmentum, a global education leader and a pioneer in online teaching and learning solutions, has announced the winners of its fourth annual Educator of the Year Awards. The grand-prize winner, Steve Clark, is a resources specialist program teacher at Ortega High School in Lake Elsinore, California. He was recognized as an innovative technologist and committed educator, and for his instrumental role in the success of Ortega High School’s credit recovery program through his Courseware and Edmentum Assessments implementation.
The Edmentum Educator of the Year Awards are held every spring, seeking to recognize Edmentum educators who exhibit excellence, go above and beyond for their students, and champion technology in the classroom. A total of 296 nominations were received from educators all over the country.
Mr. Clark remarked how the Edmentum Educator of the Year Awards grand prize is not only a personal win but, more importantly, a win for his school and his students: “To me, it's a validation of everything we're doing here. It's a validation of our culture, of the way we treat kids, of the way we run our program, of the success we have here. To me, that's the best part. It’s something that our whole school can take pride in.”
In addition to Mr. Clark, Edmentum recognized three Inspiring Educators. This year’s winners are: Bernell Jones, a 7th grade math teacher at White Station Middle School in Memphis, Tennessee; Allen Ashley, a 4th and 5th grade math and science teacher at Lake Panasoffkee Elementary School in Lake Panasoffkee, Florida; and Debra Weiler, a 6th grade teacher at New Palestine Intermediate School in New Palestine, Indiana.
“Educators like Steve, Bernell, Allen, and Debra are our heroes here at Edmentum, and the Educator of the Year Award is just one way we can show our appreciation for everything teachers do,” said Jamie Candee, CEO at Edmentum. “It is an honor to recognize them for inspiring and supporting their students to reach their full potential. The work they do every day is what inspires us to put educators first in everything we do.”
Educators were asked to detail examples of how they meet the following criteria: technology integration, Edmentum implementation, innovation, student engagement, and professional development. Mr. Clark’s story is only one of many that Edmentum is excited to feature and share with other educators.
Additional information regarding the winners can be found on the Edmentum blog.
