Ned E. Williams Elementary is being recognized as a Rock Star School on December 10th, 2014, by Edmentum, a leading provider of online learning solutions. The school has dramatically increased its STAAR testing scores within the past two years, even earning recognition from the state for its impressive progress.
Ned E. Williams Elementary, a majority-minority school where 90 percent of students are economically disadvantaged, began using Edmentum’s Study Island two years ago. In the past two years, STAAR reading scores have increased from 79 to 90 percent passing and science scores have jumped from 69 to 75 percent. Math score improvement has been the most impressive, showing a 19 percent increase from 76 to 95 percent passing. These test results confirm the effectiveness of the strategies in place at Ned E. Williams.
The school utilizes Study Island, a standards mastery program, in a small-group blended learning format, which helps teachers to differentiate instruction and spend more time working one-on-one with students who may be struggling. The school has also established their own “Quiz Bowl” using STAAR-aligned questions from the Study Island program.
