Edmentum, a global education leader and pioneer in online teaching and learning solutions, is pleased to release a new research study: Impacts of Study Island Practice and Benchmark Use in Reading, Pennsylvania. This study is the latest in Edmentum’s commitment to rigorous research and efficacy surrounding its programs. Results of the study indicate that Study Island Benchmarks demonstrate strong predictive validity for the Pennsylvania System of School Assessment (PSSA) and that Study Island has a statistically significant effect on improving student outcomes.
“We are grateful for partnerships like the one with Reading School District that allow us to support student outcomes and grow our research base to ensure the effectiveness of Edmentum programs,” said Dr. Karen Barton, senior vice president of research and design at Edmentum.
This new study finds that, for every grade level and subject analyzed, scores on Study Island Benchmarks were correlated to scores on the PSSA to a statistically significant degree, even after controlling for prior ability, indicating that performance on Study Island benchmarks is predictive of performance on the PSSA. Additionally, this research study also provides detailed analyses of student usage of Study Island compared to those students’ state assessment results and found statistically significant positive impacts on state tests scores for students using Study Island.
“We are committed to delivering high-quality, effective programs to make it easier for educators to address the needs of every student,” said Dave Adams, chief academic officer at Edmentum. “We’re very excited that this new research proves that we are delivering on that commitment.”
Study Island is a customizable K–12 assessment and practice tool that gives educators the flexibility and depth needed to support student learning and continuously engage, monitor, and assess progress. Study Island is backed by valid research studies, like the one completed in partnership with Reading School District in Reading, Pennsylvania.
