Northwestern Consolidated School District of Shelby County (NWCSD) will be presented the Rock Star School Award on February 26, 2015, by Edmentum, a leading provider of online learning solutions. The district has dramatically increased its accountability grades within the past two years, turning all three schools into A-graded schools.
In 2012, the district was struggling with its accountability grades. Triton Central High School was given a D grade, Triton Central Middle School a C, and Triton Elementary a B, with the district overall graded a C. To improve these grades, the district implemented a 1:1 initiative that included a suite of solutions from Edmentum.
NWCSD saw its learners improving academically through the individualized instruction that Edmentum solutions provide. In just two years, the district and all three schools were given A’s for their accountability grades. The middle school was also recognized by the Indiana Middle Level Education Association (IMLEA) as a School to Watch, and the high school was designated a Four Star School by the Indiana Department of Education.
“Edmentum’s Plato Courseware has given Triton Central High School the ability to become a true blended learning environment where differentiation and creativity became normal best practices in the classroom,” said Dr. Shane Robbins, NWCSD’s superintendent. “And Study Island allows us to have an individual learning plan for each one of our students. This plan is designed to meet them at their learning levels and allows us the tools to offer better differentiation in our classrooms.”
The district was also approved for “eLearning days” to be utilized during inclement weather. Teachers work closely with students even when school is canceled so that students can continue learning.
Edmentum’s Rock Star School program recognizes outstanding schools by their inventive and effective uses of Edmentum learning solutions. The Rock Star School Award presentation will occur at 3:45 p.m. on February 26, 2015, at Northwestern Consolidated School District of Shelby County’s central office: 4920 West 600 North, Fairland, Indiana, 46126.
