Florida Fundamentals of Human Service Careers A/B
Florida Fundamentals of Human Service Careers is a two-semester course designed to introduce students to the foundations of the human services field and careers that support individuals, families, and communities across the lifespan. Students will examine human development, health and wellness, ethical and legal responsibilities, diversity, advocacy, community resources, and crisis awareness, with a particular focus on confidentiality, cultural responsiveness, professional conduct, and the role of helping professionals in supporting diverse populations. They will also build communication, professionalism, and culturally responsive interaction skills used across a range of human services settings. In unit activities, students will explore leadership, collaboration, conflict resolution, and advocacy strategies used in human services environments. Students will also examine career pathways and professional communication in the human services field and engage in service-learning experiences that connect course concepts to real-world practice. They will apply critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills through hands-on activities and projects. Students will also develop career readiness skills by exploring professional roles and responsibilities across human services professions.
