North Carolina Principles of Hospitality and Tourism, Semester A/B

This two-semester course gives students in-depth knowledge of the hospitality and tourism industry. It explores various aspects of the hospitality and tourism industry. It takes students through the interesting history of this industry, right from medieval times to present times. The course gives students an overview of the food service industry, the lodging industry, the recreation, conventions, and events industry, and the tourism industry. It also gives students a strong knowledge base in various aspects related to the hospitality industry such as methods of food preparation, customer service, safety and legal issues, and sales and marketing. The course also discusses important aspects related to a student's career such as interpersonal skills and professional skills. In addition, the course gives a glimpse into various career opportunities and discusses career preparation, career advancement, and work ethics.  The course appeals to students with different learning styles as it includes activities, discussions, and games.
