Exact Path Math Diagnostic Assessment Approved as Universal Mathematics Screener by the Iowa Department of Education
The Iowa Department of Education has approved Edmentum’s Exact Path Mathematics Diagnostic Assessment as a valid and reliable universal screener for students in grades 1–6. This approval supports Iowa districts in meeting the requirements of the Math Counts Act, House File 784, for universal mathematics screening.
About the Approval
HF 784 requires all Iowa schools to screen students in grades K–6 in mathematics three times annually using an assessment approved by the Department. Students who do not meet the benchmark on two consecutive screeners are identified as “persistently at risk” and must receive intervention, a personalized math plan, and biweekly progress monitoring. The Exact Path Mathematics Diagnostic Assessment is now an approved option to meet these state requirements for universal screening in grades 1–6.
What This Means for Iowa Educators
- Easily meet HF 784 compliance requirements: Exact Path delivers the valid, reliable universal screening Iowa districts need—administered three times annually and equipped to identify students with precision and consistency.
- Go beyond identification to intervention: Exact Path doesn’t stop at screening. It automatically connects results to targeted and individualized, standards-aligned instruction and tracks progress
- Support MTSS and intervention teams with clear, actionable data: Educators receive immediate insights to inform instruction and intervention decisions, including robust reports.
Research-Driven Results
Educators choosing Exact Path are backed by a growing body of efficacy research:
- A Midwest regional study found that students using Exact Path for just 40 minutes per week demonstrated statistically significant gains in both math and reading achievement over a single semester
- In Tulsa Public Schools, early readers who received intervention with Exact Path achieved more than double the growth of their peers on benchmark assessments, based on an ESSA-aligned study design
- A correlational study conducted in Iowa revealed a strong relationship between Exact Path diagnostic scores and ISASP outcomes, supporting the program’s continued use for progress monitoring and intervention through middle and high school
Edmentum is also approved by the Iowa Department of Education as a literacy universal screener for grades 1–6, providing districts with an aligned and connected approach across subject areas.
