Mare Island Technology (MIT) Academy will be presented the Rock Star School Award on June 3, 2015, by Edmentum, a leading provider of online learning solutions. The school uses Edmentum’s Study Island and Plato Courseware to meet Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) growth goals and ensure that students are college and career ready.

MIT Academy’s academic focus is on advancing technology through a project-based curriculum designed to prepare students for college and careers. As part of this approach, the school was in need of online programs that provided both the flexibility to deliver, while meeting the rigorous demands of a high-tech academy.

As a result, the school selected Study Island to provide standards-aligned enrichment and remediation as well as test preparation for the CAHSEE (California High School Exit Exam). MIT Academy also began utilizing Plato Courseware as a credit recovery solution and as a way to offer Career Technical Education courses. Both programs have helped earn the school statewide attention for its performance and methodology.

“We use [Plato Courseware] on both ends of the spectrum—credit recovery for the struggling high school students, as well as enrichment opportunities for students who want to complete an MIT Academy technology pathway,” said MIT Academy director Matt Smith.

The list of accolades continues to grow for this California Gold Ribbon Schools Award–winning school. MIT Academy was also named a Title I Academic Achieving School for 2014–15, and it received an additional award for Exemplary Career Technical Education Program in 2015. “The results have been spectacular,” said Smith. MIT Academy met all of its AYP goals in 2014 and expects to do the same in 2015, owing much of its success to the nimble curriculum and the Edmentum-powered technology that support it.

Edmentum’s Rock Star School program recognizes outstanding schools by their inventive and effective uses of Edmentum learning solutions. The Rock Star School Award presentation will occur at 2:20 p.m. Central Time on June 3, 2015, at Mare Island Technology Academy: 2 Positive Place, Vallejo, CA 94589.
