Foundations in Reading
Foundations in Reading reviews reading skills that build a strong foundation for effective reading. Topics include: a review of sounds in words by pronouncing initial, medial vowel, and final phonemes by segmenting and blending phonemes. The course begins with reading one-syllable words and moves on to multisyllable words, practicing decoding words in isolation and in the context of sentences, poems, stories, and informational texts. Reading fluency focuses on reading for accuracy, rate, expression, purpose, and understanding.
The materials needed for this course include standard school supplies and specified activity materials.
