Virginia Civics and Economics A/B (Apex)
Virginia Civics and Economics is a two-semester course aligned with the 2023 History and Social Science Standards of Learning for Kindergarten - Grade 12 for Grade 7: Civics and Economics. The course builds students' understanding of the political and governmental systems of the United States and the roles played by citizens through interactive instruction, practice, and review. Students develop analytical and higher-order thinking skills by examining the civic, political, economics, and governmental forces that shape American democracy. The course is organized into themed units with three to five lessons each, making complex civics and economic ideas accessible through focused content, guided analysis, and robust feedback. Each lesson includes direct instruction, skill application, performance tasks, and assessments in a feedback-rich environment where students demonstrate learning through both computer- and teacher-scored assignments.
