Virginia Health Science 1 A/B

Virginia Health Science 1 is a two-semester course designed to promote understanding of the structure and function of the human body and the health science careers related to each body system. Students will examine human body systems, diseases and disorders, and medical procedures and treatments. The course places a particular focus on medical terminology, nutrition, biomolecules, and biological and chemical processes. In unit activities, students will interpret medical terminology used in health care, analyze the causes and treatments of diseases and disorders, and measure the effects of carbohydrates, lipids, and nutrients on the human body. Students will also inspect biological and chemical processes throughout the body and analyze the evolution of DNA, RNA, and genetics research in the health sciences.
