World History

World History is a two-semester course that is 100 percent aligned to the New Jersey Student Learning Standards (NJSLS) for Social Studies. The course is designed to develop students' historical thinking skills by exploring the continuity and change of human culture, governments, economic systems, and social structures from prehistory to the modern world. Students will learn to connect specific people, places, events, and ideas to the larger trends of world history through analysis grounded in primary sources, case studies, and research. They will also practice reasoning chronologically, interpreting and synthesizing sources, and developing well-supported historical arguments through critical reading activities and application-oriented assignments. In addition, the course covers written and discussion-based activities in which students respond to primary sources and historical narratives, stake and defend their own claims, and present social studies content in a variety of formats.
