Pennsylvania Distance Learning Postsecondary and Adult Basic Education
Edmentum's Courseware and Study Island solutions have been approved by the Pennsylvania Bureau of Postsecondary and Adult Education Division of Adult Education Policy for acceptable use by Pennsylvania districts in the category of "approved computer-based distance learning resources" for supplemental distance learning (on-grade level support) and teacher-assigned non-supplemental (remediation and enrichment) in the 2023-24 school year.
More specifically, the aforementioned products have been approved for adult basic education (ABE) and adult secondary education (ASE) for individuals who are unable to attend face-to-face instruction at a local program.

The regulatory definition of distance education provided in 22 Pa. Code §31.2 is:
Distance education: An alternate format to resident-based instruction for offering education courses or series of courses by an approved postsecondary educational institution, consortium of institutions or educational enterprise, for which credit is offered or awarded toward a certificate, diploma or degree, which has as its primary mode of delivery one or more of the following:
- Correspondence
- Television
- Videocassette or disk
- Film
- Radio
- Computer
- Devices built upon an audio-video format
- Other supportive devices using current or future technology
