Edmentum, a global leader and the original pioneer in online teaching and learning programs, announced a new partnership today with Smart Horizons Career Online Education (SHCOE), the world’s first accredited online school district. Edmentum will launch EdOptions Career Academy to prepare older youth with vocational skills and entry-level training in a trade. The partnership brings together SHCOE’s experience in re-engaging at-risk students into the education process with Edmentum’s extensive expertise delivering educational products and services to school districts and students.

“At Edmentum, we are committed to providing innovative education solutions to all learners,” said Ryan Hagedorn, Edmentum chief operating officer. “We are thrilled to expand our portfolio to include career courses in growing entry-level skills and trade fields. EdOptions Career Academy offers a unique way of learning for students.”

EdOptions Career Academy will be delivered through school districts throughout the country and will also be incorporated into correctional facilities serving older learners. Students can choose from 10 vocational areas such as home care professional, office management, customer service, hospitality, food services, commercial driving, and more.

The data for the SHCOE program, which will power EdOptions Career Academy, evidences strong student outcomes since its launch in 2009. Upon completion, 81% of students have enrolled or plan to continue their education in a range of post-secondary programs including technical schools, community colleges, and other career training institutions.

"As Edmentum works with more than 8,000 school districts and over 14 million students, this strategic national partnership has the potential to impact significant numbers of struggling and at-risk learners,” said Dr. Howard Liebman, SHCOE chief executive officer. “Partnering with Edmentum will provide more students with a pathway to greater skills/jobs and educational outcomes.”
